Amnesty USA - Augen nur für den Iran
Als Menschenrechtsorganisation eines Landes, das mehrere Länder besetzt hält und dort Krieg führt, sowie maßgeblichen Einfluß auf deren Regierung nimmt, sollte man meinen, das man diesem Treiben das Hauptaugenmerk widmet.
Weit gefehlt: das überwiegende Interesse gilt dem Land, dass in Gefahr steht, bald das nächste Kriegsziel zu sein.
Es ist aufschlußreich, die Länderseiten zu Irak und Iran einmal nebeneinander zustellen.
Die zum Iran dafür ist bemerkenswert lang, sie ist mit Abstand die längste aller Länder, viel länger als die zum Kongo, der auf Platz 2 landet. Vor 8 Jahren war vermutlich die Liste zum Irak ähnlich lang.
Die Hälfte der Liste zum Irak beschäftigt sich zudem mit den iranischen Volksmudschaheddin, die im Camp Ashraf festsitzen und dem Bombenanschlag unbekannter Terroristen.
Keine Erwähnung finden die 900 irakischen Gefangenen, die im Schnellverfahren abgeurteilt wurden und denen nun akut, d.h. noch vor den Wahlen Anfang März, die Hinrichtung droht.
Eine derart einseitige Konzentration auf ein Land dürfte seine Wirkung auf die große Menge derer, die sich bei der renommierten Organisation informieren, nicht verfehlen. Das iranische Regime muß zwangsläufig als das mit Abstand verbrecherischste Regime erscheinen.
Unabhängig davon, wie gerechtfertig vieles von dem ist, was AI zum Iran aufführt: ist diese Art der Dokumentation eine Form der Dämonisierung und – angesichts der militärischen Bedrohung des Irans durch die USA und Israel – faktisch ein Beitrag zur Kriegspropaganda.

| Human Rights Concerns The human rights situation in Iraq remains dire, with sectarian violence causing the majority of abuses. About 3,400 people will be forced to leave their homes at Camp Ashraf tomorrow, December 15. They are members of the Iranian opposition group People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI) from Camp Ashraf, a settlement 60 km north of Baghdad where they have lived since the mid 1980's. Some may also be at risk of being forcibly returned to Iran.  Call for Investigation into "Disappearance" of Five Men Amnesty International (AI) is concerned for the safety of Karim Ahmad Mahmood and his three sons, Arslan, Asu and Makwan, Osman Ahmed Hussain, who were arrested and "disappeared" in May of 2000 in the area of Iraqi Kurdistan under the control of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK). Their fate and whereabouts have remained unknown since. Call for an investigation into their "disappearance." » More actions Amnesty International: Latest Killing of Civilians in Bombing a 'War Crime' Amnesty International has strongly condemned the killing of at least 155 people, mostly civilians, in twin suicide bomb attacks in Baghdad on Sunday, OCTOBER 25, 2009. The attacks were carried out almost simultaneously in central Baghdad. A truck bomb was exploded near the ministries of justice and municipalities, just before 10:30am local time. Take Action: Fear of Torture/Medical Concerns for Thirty-six Iranian Nationals Thirty-six Iranians detained in Iraq are being held at a police station. Iraqi security forces detained the Iranians when they forcibly seized control of Camp Ashraf. Most are reported to have been beaten and tortured after their arrest and at least seven need urgent medical care. They are said to be on hunger strike in protest against their detention and treatment. UPDATE: ALL 36 DETAINEES RELEASED The 36 Iranians detained by the Iraqi security forces were released on 7 October, and have been taken back to Camp Ashraf. The 36 men had been held at a police station, some 25km from the camp, and then moved to a military airbase in Baghdad, despite a judicial order for them to be released. They maintained a hunger strike while they were in custody, and most were in poor health when they returned to Camp Ashraf. No further action is requested from the UA network. Iran's latest presidential election on June 12, 2009, took place against a backdrop of discrimination, worsening repression of dissent and violent unrest. Amnesty International continues to document serious human rights violations including detention of human rights defenders and other prisoners of conscience, unfair trials, torture and mistreatment in detention, deaths in custody and the application of the death penalty. Iranian-American Kian Tajbaksh was sentenced to 15 years in prison on October 20, following his conviction in a Revolutionary Court in Tehran in proceedings that failed to meet international standards for fair trials. Take action on other human rights defenders in Iran CHILD EXECUTIONS Iran is one of the only countries left in the world today that still executes children and child offenders (those accused of committing an offense when they were under 18 years of age). At least 137 juvenile offenders face execution but the total number could be much higher as many death penalty cases in Iran are believed to go unreported. At least eight child offenders were executed in 2007. Iran is the only country in the world known to have executed a juvenile offender in 2008. At least eight juvenile offenders were executed in 2008. On May 1, 2009 Delara Darabi was executed by hanging.
Women in Iran have been at the forefront of the human rights movement in that country, advocating on a broad spectrum of uses. Although their advocacy has consisted of peaceful activities, they have been met with harsh repression from Iranian authorities as part of a recent pervasive crackdown on a wide range of activism. Shirin Ebadi, the Nobel Prize winner and women's rights advocate, has been subjected to increased persecution in recent months, raising concerns for her safety. HUMAN RIGHTS CONCERNS Even before the post-June 12 elections crackdown, Amnesty International had serious concerns about massive human rights violations in Iran. For the past several years, Iranian authorities have been engaged in the brutal repression of Iranian civil society. Targets include labor activists who seek to form independent trade unions, women's rights activists, in particular those involved with the Campaign for Equality who work for equitable treatment under family law, students, journalists, bloggers, and those who advocate for cultural rights for Iran's ethnic and linguistic minorities. Hundreds of people are in detention; many of those serving prison terms have been convicted in unfair trials before Revolutionary Courts on vague charges including "propaganda against the state" or "endangering the security of the state." Amnesty International is also greatly concerned about the use of violence by Basij paramilitary and other government agents who break up peaceful demonstrations, as well as the use of torture in detention facilities. Many people have reported having been tortured in order to force them to make public confessions that can be used against them in legal proceedings.
